🎤 Yorkshire Wedding Singer: A Day in the Life of a

People often ask what it’s really like being a wedding singer in Yorkshire — is it glamorous? Stressful? Fun?

The truth is: it’s a mixture of all three… and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what a real wedding day looks like for an acoustic wedding singer, from those early-morning vocal warm-ups right through to your first dance.

🌅 1. Morning Prep as a wedding singer: Voice, Gear & Travel

While most of the wedding party is just waking up, I’m already prepping.

Vocal warm-ups

A hot drink, a gentle stretch, and 20–30 minutes warming up my voice — essential for a long day of singing. Here’s some advise on keeping your voice healthy.

Gear check

I always triple-check:

  • Guitar
  • Pedals
  • PA system
  • Cables
  • Backup mic
  • Spare strings
  • Song lists
  • Emergency kit (batteries, tools, tape, etc.)

Nothing can go wrong when you’re about to sing someone down the aisle.

Travel across Yorkshire (and beyond)

From Leeds to the Yorkshire Dales, Harrogate, York, Hull, Sheffield, and sometimes even Manchester or Derbyshire — travelling is a big part of the job.

Scenic drives through the countryside are definitely one of the perks.

🏛️ 2. Arriving at the Venue

I always arrive at least 90 minutes early.

Meeting the coordinator

A quick chat with the wedding planner or venue team helps confirm the timeline:

  • aisle walk
  • signing songs
  • exit song
  • drinks reception flow

Soundcheck

This is where the magic begins.

Every venue sounds different — barns, hotels, converted mills, marquees — so I adjust my sound to suit the space.

A Yorkshire stone barn? Warm and echoey.

A modern Leeds hotel? Clean and controlled.

Getting the sound right means the music will carry beautifully during the ceremony.

💍 3. The Ceremony: The Most Emotional Part of the Day

This is the moment I take the most seriously.

Aisle entrance

There’s nothing like singing someone down the aisle.

It’s slow, emotional, and one of the biggest highlights of being a wedding singer.

Signing the register

Gentle, meaningful songs — usually two or three.

Exit song

This is where the energy lifts. Something joyful, upbeat, acoustic and celebratory.

Seeing the couple walk out smiling is always a goosebump moment.

🥂 4. Drinks Reception: Keeping the Vibe Relaxed

Once the “big moment” is done, it’s time to create a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

I play a 60–90-minute live acoustic set while guests mingle, grab drinks, take photos and enjoy the sunshine (when Yorkshire weather behaves!).

Popular vibes here:

  • modern acoustic covers
  • soulful classics
  • folk/pop feel-good songs
  • chilled live-lounge style
  • requests from guests

This is where people relax and start enjoying the day—and live music helps massively.

🍽️ 5. Break + Wedding Breakfast

Between performances, I’ll:

  • grab some food
  • hydrate
  • rest my voice
  • prepare the first dance or evening songs

During the meal, I stay on standby in case timings shift (they always shift!).

💃 6. First Dance: A Moment I Never Get Tired Of

Whether in Leeds, the Dales, York or anywhere else in Yorkshire, the first dance is always magical.

A personalised acoustic version of your favourite song can transform the moment — softer, slower, more emotional, and completely unique to the two of you.

It’s an honour every single time.

🌙 7. Evening Music or Handover to the DJ

Depending on the package, I’ll either:

  • perform another live set
  • perform first dance + father-daughter dance
  • hand over directly to the DJ
  • or DJ a few hours myself

By this point, the room is buzzing and the party is fully underway.

🚗 8. Pack Down & Late-Night Drive Home

After the celebrations:

  • pack down carefully
  • load the car
  • chat with the couple to say thank you

Then it’s back on the road — often through quiet Yorkshire lanes under the stars.

By the time I get home, my voice is tired, my feet are tired… but my heart is full.

🎸 Why I Love Being a Wedding Singer in Yorkshire

Every wedding is different.

Each couple is unique.

Every venue has its own character.

But the reason I love this job is simple:

I get to play a small part in the biggest moments of people’s lives.

Live acoustic music brings emotion, warmth and personality to a wedding day — and being the person who delivers that is a privilege I’ll never take for granted.
